  13. I just got a new USR Sportster 33.6 and I'm having problems downloading
  14. large files.  It starts out well but after a short time the data transfer
  15. rate starts to drop.  I know this is fairly normal but the disturbing 
  16. thing is that there are frequent and long pauses, sometimes minutes, when
  17. there is no data transfer at all.  After the pause the modem once again 
  18. resumes its download.  Do I have something set up wrong?  I've been using
  19. the standard initialization string (with only the speaker turned off) and 
  20. I'm wondering if someone knows of a setting change which might improve this
  21. modems performance.
